Zanele Peaceful Mgwabi, is a nudist and lingerie model from Soweto. She is a friendly and hardworking daughter, sister and girlfriend. Zanele is someone who always speaks her mind but is definitely not rude. We had a chance to sit down with Zanele and this is how it went:

HJ:                  What do you do for fun?

Zanele:          My fun is different, I don’t drink and I’m not a party person. My opinion of fun is when I’m in front of a camera and watching movies with my friends.

HJ:                  Dogs or cats and why?

Zanele:          Neither, I don’t like animals but if I were to choose I’d go with a Dog for safety

HJ:                  When did you start modelling?

Zanele:          In 2013

HJ:                  What, or who inspires your creative direction?

Zanele:          I wish I knew hey, but there was only one person who made me believe I could do it and I can be the greatest and that was my old friend. Honestly, I always thought Modelling was for those chicks in the suburbs and not girls from Township (or girls like me). Eventually I realised that you don’t need to belong somewhere in order of you to do something, you just have to believe in yourself and love what you do

HJ:                  How do people you know behave towards your art form?

Zanele:          Modelling is simple. A model is a person who wears clothes at a special show or for photographs so that people will see them and buy them or a person who poses so that an artist can draw, paint or photograph them. What I do is little different, I do nude photography, in other words I’m a “nudist”. People need to understand that nudity is not a pornography, we tell stories and we do art.

HJ:                  What are the stereotypes towards body art?

Zanele:          You don’t respect your future husband and you are selling your body

HJ:                  What message do you have for young girls out there who wish to follow your footsteps.

Zanele:          Self-belief and self-love. Most young black women assume they need guys or they need to be in relationships in order to feel beautiful or loved. That is incorrect, you do need validation from anyone, you must love yourself first in order to be loved.

HJ:                  Who have you worked with and who do hope to work with in the future?

Zanele:          I have worked with so many people and I wish to work with everyone who’s doing what I do. What I’m really happy for is that I will be collaborating with NiKkita, I love and admire her work.

HJ:                  Where do you see yourself in the next three years?

Zanele:          I see my Self-being the greatest, giving back to those who gave up something in order for me to be where I am today, my own television talk show have 2 or 3 music albums.

HJ:                  Where can people kind of follow you on social media?

Zanele:          Facebook:  @Zanele Bodyart

Instagram:  @Bodyart_Zanele
